The most common synovial ganglion cyst occurs around the wrist. Actually sixty to seventy percent of all ganglion cysts are dorsal wrist ganglion cysts. They occur more often in women than in men.
Ganglion cysts can also be found – although less common:
- On the base of the fingers on the palm, where they will appear as small pea sized lumps
- On the fingertip, just below the cuticle, where they are called mucous cysts
- On the top of the foot
- On the outside of the knee and ankle
